On February 28th Joint Fellows Ruth Walker and Geraldine McGuigan, both from NIACRO in Belfast, presented their research findings on the impact of domestic abuse 'Survived, but at what cost...' (to read their report, follow this link). The presentation was held as part of two days of events, hosted jointly by NIACRO and the Prison Reform Trust that focussed on the treatment of women within criminal justice. Even before the event, Ruth commented that the prison service in Northern Ireland had already engaged with them on their recommendations and the report is likely to prove influential as part of the criminal justice strategy development currently being undertaken in Northern Ireland. The report was published on the day of the seminar.
